Alexander Reeder
I work with CLOTHES, SPACES, MOBILE APPS and DATA. Via these mediums I explore my core vision: how technology can enhance human communication.
By CLOTHES I mean wearable computing, and SPACES I refer to media architecture. Technology in these genres are so close to us, mentally and physically, yet are also very much like oil in water. I attempt to break these barriers down, showing new ways digital elements can feel comfortable intimately.
For example, the Butterfly Dress simply mimics its wearers heartbeat, yet says so much without words. The lobby / restaurant space of Hotel Kanra reacts to visitors gaiety, joining them without being overbearing. te.to.te offers a new approach to remote collaboration, and so on.
Self-initiated or commissioned, I approach all work as a piece of art. To maintain the highest quality I undertake as much of the work personally as possible, with additional support from staff and a closely knit network of collaborators.
I welcome commissions and consulting work in the following fields:
- Wearable computing
- Media architecture
- Rapid prototyping
- Interactive works
- UI/UX design
- Data visualization
- Complex data processing
I also lecture at universities around the Tokyo area, including Musashino Art University, Keio University, and Tokyo Polytechnic University.
