OTOPE は、触感と聴感の探求をテーマとしています。この体験では、冒頭に「音の肌」を身に着けていただきます。すると、周りの物に触れたり、それらを体に乗せたりする際に、その物や素材の持つ声を「聞きわける」ことができるようになります。この新しい感覚世界、OTOPEは暗闇で行われます。OTOPEのもう一 つの狙いは、目の不自由な人でも共有できる、直感的な体験を提供することです。
制作を行ったK-について
K-は、人が持つ感覚、ただし視覚以外に焦点を当てた、感覚にまつわる体験を創造するために設立されました。既存のエンターテイメントは、たとえそれがゲームであってもテレビであっても、視覚的な試みであることがほとんどです。私たちの日々の生活や対話の土台となる、文化的な基礎を生成する上で、大きな役割を担っているのはエンターテイメント産業です。エンターテイメントにおいて、フィジカルとバーチャルとの分離が進めば、それを体験できない一定の人々を疎外してしまうおそれがあります。K-は、東京を拠点とする制作集団です。誰もが参加できる、非視覚的体験を制作しています。
OTOPE begins by donning headphones, a blindfold and a 'sound skin' through which you can 'hear' the texture of objects around you by touching and placing them on your new skin. 14 unique textures have been prepared. Different combinations - slick + rubbery + rough, for example - creates a unique track representing those textures. So you are mixing with textures and your body is the patchboard.
About K-, the group of creatives that made OTOPE
K- was founded to create sensorial experiences which focus on our senses - except for our sense of sight. Entertainment, whether through games or TV, is mostly a visual endevour. Entertainment as an industry plays a huge role in shaping the cultural foundation on which we base our everyday lives and conversations. As these experiences become more detached between the physical and virtual we risk alientating groups who are unable to participate. K- is a group of creatives in Tokyo weaving non-visual experiences to provide a common cultural thread for all to join.
