Indoor positioning, live in our office.
CUWB is an ultra-wideband (UWB) real-time location system (RTLS) that tracks exactly where small dedicated tags are inside a building.
Developed by Ciholas, Inc. (headquartered in Indiana, USA).Official CUWB site
It is quick to install and the position data is easy to feed into other hardware and applications, so an indoor-positioning prototype can be up and running in a short time.

What you can do with position data
Positions captured with CUWB are not just something to plot on a screen. They can drive lighting, video, sound, devices and applications.
Light changes
as you approach
Shift color, brightness and movement according to the distance to an exhibit or a fixture.
Visuals move
as you move
Change video, sound and staging to follow where people are and which way they are heading.
Groups trigger
a different response
Use the number of people and their individual positions to create behavior that differs from a single visitor.
Devices react
in a set area
Trigger devices and applications when someone enters or leaves a specific zone.
Review movement
afterwards
Record the captured positions and visualize them as paths taken and places people stayed.
* The approach taken and the positioning accuracy vary with the space, the hardware configuration, the number of tags and other factors.
Why use CUWB for a prototype
Trying out indoor positioning means two things: getting a space to the point where it can track position, and connecting that position data to hardware and applications. CUWB gets you through both quickly, and there is no system fee for continuing to use it.
Simple to install
tracking in about half a day
Power and data share a single LAN cable and anchors chain one to the next, which keeps wiring to a minimum. In our own office, six anchors went from installation to live tracking in about half a day.

connected to lighting in two days
Position data is broadcast as standard, so there is no transmitter to build. A single receiving program was all it took to connect it to our existing knotLight.

no subscription
Beyond the cost of the hardware and the development itself, there is no system fee or subscription contract to keep CUWB running. If an evaluation period stretches out, you can keep testing without watching a monthly bill.
From an idea to a prototype that runs
You do not need a detailed specification to start the conversation.
“I want an exhibit that reacts when someone comes close.” “I want to drive lighting and video from a performer’s position.” From a starting point like that, we can begin testing with live position data in a real space.
At Art and Program we go further than installing CUWB. We work alongside you to connect the position data to lighting, video, sound, devices and applications, right through to a prototype that actually runs.
Three ways to try CUWB
See a live demo
Check the accuracy and the experience for yourself, in a real space.
02Borrow CUWB and try it
We lend out a full set, anchors and tags included, so you can test freely in your own environment.
03Discuss a prototype using CUWB
From working out requirements to installation, integration and experience design, we stay with the prototype throughout.
Start by coming to see CUWB in action.
If you have an idea you would like to test with indoor positioning, we are glad to talk about lending the equipment or building a prototype too.
