Boredoms

Boredoms + Qosmo

In 2011 we did a live set with Boredoms at Studio Coast (Ageha). Boredoms creative lead and leader EYE always has crazy ideas for new instruments. In this project he wanted to use his body as the instrument; or rather become instrument. Microsoft's kinect had recently been released so we thought this would be a good way to track EYE's movements. We placed the kinect above the stage looking down at EYE, a rather unusual angle. Urakawa was responsible for the programming. EYE was in the center of 6 drum sets. When he pointed at a drum set a sound filter / effect would be placed on that drummer. We also used lighting to make it easy to understand which drummer was being highlighted. The project was a blast with a long practice session in Osaka followed up by the live event at Ageha. Boredoms are usually the highlight, playing last, but because of our setup requirements had to play first. Due to the difficulty of the setup we delayed the entire event by 45 minutes... I almost had a heart attack.
